Plot

Debbie (Priya Bhavani Shankar) is brokenhearted by the mysterious suicide of her lover, Sam (Sarjano Khalid). To find answers, she calls in a spiritual guide to help contact Sam’s spirit and learns secrets of his estranged twin brothers Raghu and Srini, played by Arulnithi. Having gone through her investigation Debbie finds herself trapped in a curse, to be reawakened every six years, and discovers the unsung king of a fallen kingdom. Her journey has her arrive at Demonte Colony, where dark forces lay in wait to challenge her quest. Debbie must find out about the curse to save the twins and herself from malice alone.

Performance

Priya Bhavani Shankar is excellent as Debbie, bringing much-needed depth and urgency without a moment of affectation. And the emotional seriousness she brings to the character helps drive the story and layer the mystery. Arulnithi as the twin brothers champion his best, matching her intensity in their respective scenes and together they are outstanding. That brings the psychological impact of the film when he switches between two characters. Sarjano Khalid and Tsering Dorjee do their part to contribute to the horror, but they don’t have too much to do.

Direction and Screenplay

Ajay R Gnanamuthu’s direction is well spaced as there are a series of twists with actual suspense building up in the screenplay towards the end and then a cliff-hanging ending. The director’s attempt to link Demonte Colony 2 to its prequel gives the sequel depth, but the story’s non-linear nature may confuse those who have not seen the original. While gripping, the screenplay sometimes resolves indecipherability, as it contorts to move between past and present events and some of the latter scenes in the second half were sacrificed for smoother patterns.

Music

The haunting atmosphere of Demonte Colony 2, the second installment of Sam CS’s score, is created by his score. Eerie and ambient sounds, as well as tension-filled tracks, are all used by him to amp up the horror experience and make the important scenes that much more sickening. The music, even though it’s not particularly memorable, is all right, and works to the film’s scenes of suspense without drowning the plot.

Theme

Themes of unresolved curses, vengeance, and the lengths to which one will go to seek the unknown hidden truth are examined in Demonte Colony 2. Debbie’s relentless search for answers, and her prodding of the forces of the spirit when they try to intrude, make for a war between good and evil, a war that is played out between curses of the past and the present. The cursed book, and what it means to Sam’s family, helps to tie the story together with the web of fates that drive the story forward.

Conclusion

That is all for this one; Demonte Colony 2 is a chilling horror thriller that should go down well with those looking for that demographic. A suspense-driven script, commendable performances by Priya Bhavani Shankar and Arulnithi, an atmospheric score with a dark hue, and some good scares and suspense are what the film does well. Although the non-linear plot and inconsistent visual effects spoil the impact somewhat. However, whether you choose to have fun while experiencing this terror will be up to you. Still, Demonte Colony 2 is an excellent follow-up on iBomma with plenty of chills and the promise of more later down the road.
