Plot

Arunmozhi Varman, also known as Arul (played by Karthi) is the emotional journey of Meiyazhagan, which follows. Arul is a man who, for his past decisions, had to pay the price of losing his family’s trust. His biggest regret is renting out family land, which splits most of his relatives from him. Arul, seeking redemption, the film leads the audience on a probing of his pursuit for redemption, of his alleged tenuous quest to re connect with his past and heal broken relationships. Arul’s personal growth and the endeavour of bridging the broken emotional and familial ties he once lost, constitute the central theme.

Performance

The movie has a star studded cast with Karthi doing a phenomenal job managing to bring depth and intensity in his character Arul. Karthi is famous for his diverse acting, and he is definitely going to do this yet another powerful performance accompanied with emotion and action. Audiences should be able to relate to his portrayal of a man torn between guilt and redemption, to a degree you can only imagine.

Sudalamuthu, played Arvind Swamy as supportive uncle of Arul and also as his calm demeanor and intense screen presence makes us feel stable and wise in Arul’s journey. Arul’s struggles are brought to ground by Swamy’s character.

But her role is so under wraps that we can only expect Sri Divya to contribute heavily to the emotional part of the story, mainly in her role with Karthi’s character. The tenderness and vulnerability layered in this relationship gives the otherwise action-driven plot a handsomeness of texture.

The film’s core themes of family and personal transformation are set up nicely by a fantastic supporting cast of veteran actor Rajkiran, Devadarshini, Jayaprakash, Ilavarasu and Swathi Konde.

Direction and Screenplay

C. Prem Kumar maintains a strong emotional core while blending drama, comedy and action expertly, pumping out his directorial debut in a breezy style. Kumar always excels in showing complex human emotions and has shown them with authenticity to the cultural nuances of Tamil Nadu. The result is a narrative that is both intense and engaging, the action scenes are hard hitting and the introspection is real.

Prem Kumar also wrote the screenplay in such a way that he aided the action moments of sensawalka with a swift pace and let the drama amble along nicely at its own pace, with enough breathing gap left for character development. This confluence of fast, action driven moments and slow, reflective ones continue to keep the roller coaster of Meiyazhagan thrilling and lifeless.

Music

Govind Vasantha has scored film’s music as it plays a big role in enhancing the emotional element of the story. Vasantha’s compositions will be expected to recreate the Tamil sounds while combining them with contemporary tunes that make the experience of the follow culture rich and audience friendly. The music also fits to the film’s dramatic and action scenes, and blends perfectly into the picture perfect visual.

Theme

Meiyazhagan is essentially about atonement, family dynamics and self discovery. As with every universal theme, the guilt and redemption, the underlying theme of the protagonist’s journey to redeem his wrongs. The film also pays attention to how familial connections allow for difficult scenario, and how the decisions can affect the relationships so emotionally. Apart from a cultural setting of Tamil Nadu which lends clear regional values and traditions to the narrative, the story builds itself around conflicts of land, environment and human rights.
