Plot

Committee Kurrollu is set in the peaceful village of Purushothapalli in West Godavari, where a close-knit group of friends are Shiva, Surya, Subbu, William, Peddodu and a host of others. Things between them are unbreakable and they’re tight friends in the village. Their harmony is broken, however, during an unexpected argument and conflicts ruin the whole community. The story strikes at what split the village and why, the role of Bujji, played by Sai Kumar, in resolving or further complicating matters, and its effect on the village’s social fabric. The plot also keeps the audience guessing if the friends will join together and regain peace once more.

Performance

Strong performances come from the cast, nothing less than Sandeep Saroj, Thrinadh Varma, Prasad Behara, and Yaswanth Pendyala, all of who can bring in some humor but also a depth of emotion to their characters. What is convincingly, and cinematically, portrayed is their camaraderie and trepidation with the group. The presence of supporting actors like Kishore Kumar Polimera and Sai Kumar enhances the effect of key scenes and also contributes to the charm of the film. The cast is believable and also includes the characters involved in many of the core conflicts (friendship, misunderstandings, reconciliation).

Direction and Screenplay

Yadhu Vamsi’s narration of village life and friendliness is real. There’s a lot of energy in the first half, but the film runs out of steam in the second. Some scenes fall flat towards the end and climax, as well as the problem with the election subplot feels underbaked. Strangely enough, the screenplay includes some engaging moments of humor and emotion, but clearly, the story could have used a tighter narrative arc to keep the consistency of the story going.

Music

Anudeep Devarakonda adds sports and nostalgia to the film with its lighthearted feel. The songs fit well with the story, and make the comedy as well as emotional moments all the more agreeable. The soundtrack is nothing earth-shattering, but it is effective for what the story should feel like. Making it so the background score also adds a bit of warmth and vibrancy to the village setting, and makes it easier for the audience to relate to the characters on their journeys.

Theme

Friendship, misunderstanding, and community are some of the themes Committee Kurrollu explores. It’s at its core a story about relationship complexity, how small conflicts can build into a big problem for an entire community. The film is funny, but with more serious undertones, that subtly point out how the smallest disputes can cause discord. The story is one full of themes around unity, reconciliation, and the importance of communication, themes that are relatable for many people who have or continue to have close ones they can share equally with.

Conclusion

A fun village drama with fun moments and feel-good humor, Committee Kurrollu is a pleasant watch. Despite some flatness of the plot in a few places and a loss of momentum in the second half of its run, it is a nostalgic, enjoyable event. It’s a film that carries memorable performances from a talented cast and it works fine for anybody watching with people, but if you’re in for a particularly nostalgic treat, then watch it with your friends. Committee Kurrollu is also a fantastic pick on iBomma for a weekend of laughter and emotions celebrating the richness and difficulties of friendship.
