Plot

Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is the story of Surya (Nani), a man who vows to control his rage for six days a week and set it loose on the sixth day only on those who wrong him. He walks into the world of Sokulapalem, with Sokulapalem’s ruthless CI Daya, played by SJ Suryah, himself another brutal polis police constable, on his trail. But as with Charulatha (Priyanka Arul Mohan, a determined police officer), there is a layer of intrigue that Solar’s quest for justice brings: Surya. Add to this a powerful politician Koormanandam (Murali Sharma), Charu latha’s mysterious role, and the tale of what we can or cannot do to exact revenge on those who violate our justice, and the soundtrack.

Performance

Nani is a remarkable depth to his Surya, able to play the calm man and the stormy avenger equally well. The nuanced and compelling thing about his portrayal of restrained fury builds up throughout the week and then blows up on Saturdays. C I Daya, played so well by SJ Suryah, is good with his dark humor and an edge of intensity that makes you sit up and pay attention. It’s Nani, his confrontations with whom are some of the most memorable moments of the film.

Nani is well complimented by Priyanka Mohan in her role as Charulatha which brings in just the necessary strength. Her character isn’t central to the romance, but she does have a great unique chemistry with Nani that brings value to the storyline. Aditi Balan, who plays one of the supporting roles—though she could have had more to do—gives a nuanced performance; Murali Sharma and Abhirami together also lend additional emotional depth to their roles, but could also have been fleshed out a little further to bring greater narrative richness.

Direction and Screenplay

Vivek Athreya, whose films are known for their nuanced storytelling, once again turns into a directorial assignment with a concept all of his own. But, even though Saripodhaa Sanivaaram has a firm base, it doesn’t have a good screenplay at times. In the pacing, Athreya’s attempts to intertwine character-driven moments with high action high action fail a few times. The problem with the first half is that while intimates you with the characters, which slows down the story, the climatic sequences in the second half could be better served with a tighter script. However, Athreya’s direction is always interesting and there are no hiccups in the film.

Music

Add to the atmosphere of the film, Jake Bejoy’s soundtrack and background score further take the film’s intensity as well as give it certain soulful moments. During action scenes, the music helps heighten the tension and during quieter scenes, it helps the emotional undertone. Not all tracks are memorable, but the whole score sticks well with the tale and it’s a worthwhile addition to the film’s merits.

Theme

Saripodhaa Sanivaaram is essentially about themes of justice, vengeance, and self-restraint. The larger idea is the idea of channeling rage to a purpose, and Surya’s promise to control his anger is a perfect example of this. The boundaries of right and wrong, especially in the hands of the law enforcers will never be clear like_CI Daya_. The film uses Saturday to suggest the internal struggle of those who seek justice without the normal means.

Conclusion

The action drama Saripodhaa Sanivaaram has some amazing performances, especially from Nani and SJ Suryah. It might not make it through the runtime and pacing, but the idea is so good, the characters are so compelling and the fights are so intense that it’s worth checking out. While Saripodhaa Sanivaaram has an impressive cinematic narrative for fans of action-packed stories with a psychological edge, there just aren’t enough reasons to watch it on iBomma.
