Plot
In Tiger 3, RAW agent Avinash Singh Rathore, aka Tiger (Salman Khan) gets some intel that former ISI agent Aatish Rehman (Emraan Hashmi) doesn’t want anyone to know. But Aatish is a few steps ahead of Tiger making Tiger’s mission even tougher. The cunning strategies of Aatish can be dangerous, and Tiger, meanwhile, will have to rely on his skills, and the help of his partner Zoya (Katrina Kaif). The film uses the RAW and ISI rivalry as a basis for a wild ride as Tiger fights to stop a global threat.
Performance
Salman Khan doesn’t disappoint, as he delivers a power-packed performance as part-action hero. His on-screen charisma, and easy action sequences, keep the momentum going, especially when he finally makes his much-anticipated entry. Tiger’s journey of struggle and hard work is completed by Katrina Kaif who plays Zoya on her terms with grace and strength, remaking her character on her terms, a Zoya we know.
Aatish (played by Emraan Hashmi) makes an interesting addition to the cast, turning what would otherwise be a one-note role into a more complex part. The fallout from the onscreen cameo that Shah Rukh Khan does as Raj, especially between himself and Salman, is a point that fans will take away as a truly memorable moment in the YRF Spy Universe.
Direction and Screenplay
With Tiger 3, Maneesh Sharma takes a different route from the films like Band Baaja Baaraat. Comes his style of the action sequence, adds a little intensity and grandeur. The first half lacks an in-depth screenplay, though it mixes suspense with high-octane action and the screenplay is penned by Shridhar Raghavan. However, the second half makes up for this, with well-choreographed action and some thrilling plot twists involving well-known faces from earlier films. But Sharma does a good job with action scenes and cameos; some of them drag a little.
Music
Tiger 3 gets a boost in vibrancy from Pritam’s music and Tanuj Tiku’s background score. The score increases the suspense and action, the songs reflect the energy of the film, and together create a matching backdrop to the unfolding drama. While the soundtrack itself boasts no single stand-out track; it matches the score perfectly and turns up the tension of the film.
Theme
Tiger 3’s big themes are loyalty, national duty, and good vs. evil, all familiar spy genre themes. ‘Throughout the movie, in particular Tiger and Zoya, the movie drives home the sacrifices required of the spies and the endurance which the spies demonstrate.’ Such a theme (international intrigue) is taken up with its complexities as the rivalry between Tiger and Aatish explores motives.
Conclusion
Finally, Tiger 3 keeps its promises of excitement and high-octane sequences. No, it won’t have as in terms of how deep the plot is, but it is fun with great action scenes and a cameo to remember, really, with Shah Rukh Khan. Tiger 3 has a strong opening weekend and should do well at the box office, though keeping momentum in the coming weeks will be its real test. For fans of the Tiger franchise, it’s an exhilarating ride worth watching, albeit with tempered expectations.
