Vettaiyan starring superstar Rajinikanth has finally hit the theaters after months of high anticipation. T.J. Gnanavel’s Telugu crime drama is a tale of mystery, suspense, and a powerful look at justice. Rajinikanth was eager to see if Vettaiyan could live up to its intense hype, which had fans and critics alike eager to see if Vettaiyan could live up to its hype.
Abhiyan is a special encounter specialist played by Rajinikanth, he has such a deep dedication to justice that it offends traditional moral confines. In Athiyan’s life, things take an extremely new direction after he meets Sharanya (Dushara Vijayan), a teacher at a high school and one who will not hesitate to fight against the alienation that society perpetuates. However, tragedy strikes when Sharanya dies suddenly, Athiyan is left shocked and determined to find out what happened to Sharanya.
The investigation of Athiyan takes him down a maze of suspicion and hidden deceptions, the character of Nataraj (Rana Daggubati) leaves behind muddles, and Athiyan has his hands full with creating a solid and believable police character. The film embarks on a journey into themes of justice, loyalty, and to what lengths one is ready to go to protect the innocent.
Performance
With belief as his tone and intensity as his trademark, Rajinikanth shone through as his character Athiyan in intense and ever-charismatic performances in between. His scenes with Amitabh Bachchan, who shines as a character so committed to justice that he even pursues a legal route, really make a cracking dynamic. Bachchan’s seasoned presence lends gravity to the story, particularly because of its atmosphere to Athiyan’s passionate hunt for justice, sometimes ruthless, audacity comes completely naturally.
Most everyone knows that Rana Daggubati is a terrific actor, and his as the character changes and grows with his surroundings in the film’s second half is exemplary. The film brings in complexity in the way Fahadh Faasil subtly powers the story to a life of its own and along with supporting actors like Manju Warrier and Ritika Singh, they all reinforce the emotional flow of the film.
Direction and Screenplay
T.J. Gnanavel creates a thrill ride yet reflective. But the moral issues the screenplay co-written with B. Kiruthika manages to slowly knit across intense action sequences that highlight more on how crowded and disorganized the screenplay is but still manage to impress with the momentum, if not a little slower in a few places. Unfortunately, some moments in the second half would be served better by tighter editing to keep up that initial intensity, but the director is a master of weaving action and drama into a seamless unit.
Music
The music and background score by Anirudh Ravichander makes for a great cinematic experience, especially during the tense investigative sequences and the climactic action moments. His work bolsters the film in another way, lending a sense of extra suspense and emotional fervor that accompanies the film’s theme nicely.
Theme
At its core, Vettaiyan is about as much justice and how much it costs to pursue. Athiyan’s journey shows a conflict between moral righteousness and payback and the difference between people who come to justice from a more systematized, legal perspective. This is a film with depth into this theme of divergent ideologies that explore how different people interpret and fight for what they think is right, even if their means are drastically different.
Conclusion
Rajinikanth draws you in and T.J. Gnanavel compliments that a magnificently crafted crime drama delivered by his soon-to-be superstar Vettaiyan. The first half of the film is tense and exciting, but the second half is still exciting, but not at the same furious pace of the film’s first half, which includes a few more slow investigative sequences, that won’t take over the movie. Yet, for thrillers of the action genre and tales that require a little self-contemplation, Vettaiyan cannot disappoint fans by delivering enough thrills, intense action, and moral considerations.
Vettaiyan is a winning testament to Rajinikanth’s enduring appeal and a well-made crime drama which is available on iBOMMA.
